Using the Windows graphical interface:

Windows XP

  1. Click on the Start Button. (Or locate "My Network Places" on the desktop, if present).
  2. Right-click on "My Network Places." Left-Click on "properties" in the drop down menu.
  3. In the Network Connections window, Right-click on "Wireless network connection."
  4. Select "Properties" from the drop-down list.
  5. Scroll down the list labeled "This connection uses the following items" to locate "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)." Click on that to highlight it.
  6. Select "Properties" (the right most tab below that window.
  7. Select "Advanced" in the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window that opens.
  8. Select the tab labeled "WINS"
  9. At the bottom of the WINS page, under NETBIOS, select EITHER "Default (Use NETBIOS setting from DHCP server)" OR "Enable NETBIOS over TCP/IP."
  10. Click "OK."
  11. Click "OK" and then "CLOSE" to close the open dialog windows.
  12. Close the Network Connections window

Windows Vista

  1. Click on the Start Button.
  2. Right-click on "Network" Left-Click on "properties" in the drop down menu.
  3. In the Network and Sharing Center window locate the "Local Area Connection" and click on "View Status"
  4. Select "Properties".
  5. Scroll down the list labeled "This connection uses the following items" to locate "Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4?)." Click on that to highlight it.
  6. Select "Properties" (the right most tab below that window.
  7. Select "Advanced" in the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window that opens.
  8. Select the tab labeled "WINS"
  9. At the bottom of the WINS page, under NETBIOS, select EITHER "Default (Use NETBIOS setting from DHCP server)" OR "Enable NETBIOS over TCP/IP."
  10. Click "OK."
  11. Click "OK" and then "CLOSE" to close the open dialog windows.
  12. Close the Network Connections window
